Filtering

What it does.

  • Every change that matters

Posts, users, roles, plugin activations, settings and failed logins — with the before and after value, not just the fact that something changed.

  • Filters that find the one event

By user, by type, by date, by object. A log you cannot search is a log nobody reads.

  • Append-only by design

The plugin never updates or deletes a row. A log an attacker can edit is not evidence of anything.

  • Retention you control

Keep as long as you need. IP addresses are stored as hashes, so the log is useful without becoming a GDPR liability.

Why it earns its place

The question is always "when did this change".

A site that broke last Tuesday, a setting nobody admits to touching, a client asking why their page is different. Without a log, the answer is a guess and a restore. With one it is a lookup.

Questions

How big does the log get?

Bounded by retention and indexed for the queries the UI runs. A busy site is measured in megabytes a year, not gigabytes.

Does it log visitors?

No. It records changes made by authenticated users. Visitor analytics is Apaxon Analytics, and keeping the two separate keeps this log short enough to read.

Can staff delete their own entries?

No. Nothing in the plugin issues a delete against the log — that is the property that makes it worth having.
